Gingivectomy -a periodontal surgical procedure which includes the removal of gingival tissue in order to achieve a more aesthetic appearance and/or functional contour. Gingivectomies are frequently performed using electrosurgery to cauterize away the undesired gum tissue.

Apicoectomy - the removal of the root tip and the surrounding infected tissue of an abscessed tooth. This surgical procedure may be necessary when inflammation and infection persists in the area around the root tip after root canal therapy or root canal treatment.
